Goodyear FG-1D Corsair

Goodyear FG-1D Corsair

The Corsair is a WWII fighter aircraft that was operated by the U.S. Navy.

They were designed to be able to take off and land on Carriers. They quickly proved themselves on all fronts and demand for corsairs skyrocketed. Due to this increase in demand, Vought struggled to keep up with production and so the production of corsairs was outsourced to other manufacturers as well. This meant in order to tell which manufacturers built the aircraft, the corsairs were given different designations. For example, Corsairs built by Vought use "F4U", while Corsairs built by Goodyear use "FG-1D."
